There's no finish line in yoga
Today I started a 3-week teacher training in the beautiful (and very hot) Maui. The teachers, Nicki Doane and Eddie Modestini, have created a wonderful studio in the lush green forests on Maui's North Shore. As I stood looking out of the wall of windows, gazing over the tropical valley below, I felt truly fortunate to have made it here.
Nicki and Eddie have an immense wealth of experience between them - I really couldn't imagine doing this level of teacher training with anyone else - and I hope to share some gems with you over the next few weeks.
At the beginning of today's class we had a meet-and-greet discussion, with all the trainees sharing their thoughts on yoga and their reasons for being here. There were several profound comments, but the one that stayed with me the most was that 'there is no finish line in yoga'. This can be taken two ways... First that it is not a competitive sport, with participants a racing to get to some end point and be the winner. Second, there is no finite end to the journey. Yoga is a work in progress, day by day, step by step, inch by inch - as long as you are breathing you are moving forward. To quote Finding Nemo, we just keep swimming.
